Now a days, I only ever round trip from C1 to PS, and use these plugins as actual plugins on a layer in PS, so manage to avoid these issues

So all will be working smoothly with C1, until, after an update, one of the Topaz programs will suddenly stop working, usually to be fixed at the next point release.ĭXO Nik 4, I seem to remember had the same issue after an upgrade and broke the round tripping from C1 with some of their programs, but was fixed with a point release. Topaz programs seems they fairly regularly change the way they do this, and aren't consistent across their programs. The problems seem to occur when the external program makes some changes to the way it opens and closes files which prevents C1 using it as an external editor. Helicon Focus has a C1 plugin written by Helicon Focus, C1 only round trips to programs that work as stand alone programs, which C1 calls as an external editor. So, with a couple of exceptions, where proper C1 Plugins have been written by the third party program provider, e.g. The other program then saves over the C1 created TIFF that C1 already has in it's database. C1 creates a TIFF (or PSD) beside the raw file and then opens the TIFF in the other program for editing. The round tripping from C1 is pretty simple, and I've round tripped from C1 to many programs over the years I've used it. I don't do any sharpening or noise reduction in Capture One or in any other software because the 2022 ON1 performs both perfectly and much more time efficiently. > ON1 2022 NoNoise+Sharpen > Effects > Export to a size recipe > C1 TIFF which has streamlined my workflow and I don't need Photoshop in my post-processing workflow any more. So, my very much preferred alternative and my new workflow is C1 base camp > Edit With. Topaz wouldn't load to and from C1 via Photoshop either. The latest version of Capture One is launched today 9th December and it might do what's called a 'Round Robin' trip to and from Topaz but I don't know.
If you haven't done so already, check in C1 Preferences that any Topaz listed apps are selected as active plug-ins but I seem to recall that unsatisfactorily some were and some weren't!
My base camp RAW converter and local adjustments software, I only shoot RAW, is Capture One (C1) and has been for a long time since Apple stopped developing Aperture. I no longer use Topaz anything because I much prefer my installed alternatives.
